Trump Invites Loved Ones of Shot Military Personnel to the Presidential Residence
Former President Donald Trump stated on the weekend that he has extended an invitation the family of a Guard member killed last week to attend the presidential home.
He added that he spoke to her family and they were “deeply grieving”.
Background on the Tragic Incident
Soldier Beckstrom, 20, was fatally shot in a attack on Wednesday in DC.
Her comrade, US air force staff Sgt Andrew Wolfe, twenty-four years old, continues receiving treatment in serious condition.
Vigils across the state have been held in their honor.
White House Offer
The commander-in-chief stated he’s discussed a visit to the White House for the families of both members of the West Virginia Guard.
“I told them: ‘When you’re able, because that’s a difficult moment, come to the White House. We’re going to honor her,” the president addressed journalists. “And similarly with him, no matter the outcome.”
Community Support
Attendees came together over the weekend at Webster County high school in West Virginia to honor Beckstrom.
Both they had been serving with the military unit as part of Trump’s federal initiative to support public safety in DC.
Honoring Beckstrom
“She was the individual that educators desired. She behaved with calm resilience, a warm expression and a optimistic attitude that lifted those around her,” Jarrod Hankins, the leader of Beckstrom’s former high school, stated to the Associated Press. “She was sweet, compassionate and always eager to assist people.”
Funeral arrangements for Beckstrom are still being arranged.
Legal Measures and Policy Changes
Law enforcement have charged a twenty-nine-year-old Afghan national with a charge of murder and charges of assault with intent to kill while armed.
The incident prompted the Trump administration to halt refugee claims and cease granting entry permits to holders of passports from Afghanistan.
Status of Andrew Wolfe
Wolfe, a native of the city, enlisted in early 2019 and is a graduate of Musselman High, as reported by the AP.
He continues to receive treatment and is “fighting for his life”, the state’s leader Patrick Morrisey mentioned on Fox News Channel’s The Sunday Briefing.
The state’s top lawyer Pam Bondi informed Fox News Sunday that she aimed to speak to his relatives.
Memory of the Fallen Soldier
Sarah, from her hometown, completed her education from Webster County High in mid-2023 and began her service not long after, serving as a military police officer with excellence, according to the state guard.
“She had a lot of kindness and she absolutely had courage,” he addressed the audience at the vigil. “Though her time was cut short, she has left a mark that’s going to endure.”
