The Red Devils Set to Secure German Striker Lea Schüller from Bayern Munich
The Women's Super League club are finalising completing the signing for prolific German forward Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer away from the Frauen-Bundesliga champions.
A Marquee Acquisition for the WSL Side
The forward, with half a year remaining on her deal, has been a consistent goalscorer for her club and the national team. Having netted over 100 goals for the German giants and found the net 54 times in 82 appearances for her country. Her arrival will be seen as a major coup for the Women’s Super League team.
Departure from Bayern was expected after she was seen holding back emotions while thanking the German club’s supporters after a win over Bayer Leverkusen recently.
It was reported in December that the Frauen-Bundesliga was losing one of its leading forwards. Per reports, all the paperwork for the move have now been completed.
Consistent Goalscoring to Boost United's Forward Line
The experienced striker's arrival should represent a major boost to the team's attacking options. Schüller has been remarkably consistent with her finishing in Germany’s top flight.
- Over seven consecutive seasons, including the last term, she reached at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
- She won the Golden Boot in the 2021-22 season with a haul of 16 goals.
Gathering Momentum at Carrington
The acquisition of the German international coincides with a period when the club appear to be gathering positive momentum.
Their recent performances include qualifying for the European knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a victory in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.
Off the pitch, the mid-season window has brought further business:
- The acquisition of Sweden right-back Hanna Lundkvist on a multi-year deal.
- The contract extension for Japan playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, a popular figure since arriving in 2023.
On Miyazawa’s new deal, a senior figure commented: “She has become a critical component to the way we play. Her understanding of the game and skill allows her and the team to control and dictate play from the middle of the park.”
Lundkvist, who has arrived from a side from the NWSL, said: “You can feel how much the club have grown in the last few years, competing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and now featuring in the Champions League.”
