The network's Premier New Show of 2025 Gets a Significant Extension for Two More Seasons.
In October of last year, Adult Swim welcomed back its quirky hit, Smiling Friends. Yet, not long after, the network introduced a fresh animated series with a strikingly different feel. Haha, You Clowns emerged as heartwarming and calm, evoking a cartoon version of a contemplative talk show. In an era often defined by bleakness, this show's earnestness resonated deeply and turned it into a breakout hit.
A Significant Investment
On December 18th, Adult Swim made a major announcement: Haha, You Clowns has been picked up for two additional seasons. This offers creator Joe Cappa significant creative freedom to further explore the story of the Campbell family. The show follows three polite teenage brothers whose defining trait is their strong bond for their single father, with Cappa providing the voices for all four key characters.
"I am incredibly thankful to the viewers of the show who welcomed the series and helped it grow," said Cappa. "It's thrilling that I get to hang out at the Campbell household for the foreseeable future."
Network Praise
Accompanying the news laudits from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who called the series as "radically heartfelt and uniquely eerie." He specifically highlighted the fans who embraced the show and championed its peculiarly charming sensibility.
"All of you showed up for this new show, championed for it on social media, and expanded its audience week over week so we could greenlight not one, but two more seasons," said Ouweleen. "In the words: 'You are strong! You are loved!'"
A Wholesome Alternative
Upon its debut, Haha, You Clowns was praised as "a gentle counterpart" to more cynical adult animated fare. There’s something surprisingly comfy about observing this charming family go about their simple existence.
Previously, creator Joe Cappa stated his goal to help comedy break out of its prevailing sarcastic tone. He linked this trend to various cultural shifts.
“There's this level of irony that we are trapped in,” noted Cappa. “It's like we have to know we’re the smartest person in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for too long, and we must laugh at something different now. The genre needs to change.”
Future Seasons
Given this two-season order, with Haha, You Clowns guaranteed to return, Cappa could potentially be part of that very evolution. At a minimum, the renewal guarantees audiences more opportunities to enjoy the gentle humor of the endearing Campbell clan.
The first season's conclusion of Haha, You Clowns airs on December 21st. The complete first season is currently streaming on HBO Max.
