The English Team to Launch the European Championship 2028 Journey at City’s Home Ground

The England national team will commence their UEFA Euro 2028 journey at the Manchester City’s stadium, on the condition that they achieve the anticipated qualification for a championship hosted across most of the United Kingdom and the Irish Republic.

Manchester City’s home ground has not hosted an Three Lions match since May 2016, when the Turkish team were beaten 2-1 in a exhibition match, but is almost certain to stage the national team for their inaugural game on Saturday 10 June 2028.

England are set to play their last two group stage games at Wembley Stadium, but, if they top their group, their round of 16 match would be held at Newcastle’s St James’ Park. Placing second would mean beginning the elimination stage at Everton’s ground.

Competition Kickoff and Protest

The championship was unveiled at an gathering in Piccadilly Circus on Wednesday night. Key representatives from the tournament organizers and the host FAs were confronted as they entered the location by around fifty protesters, who demanded Israel’s national side to be removed from global football because of the situation in Gaza.

Banners were displayed with messages reading “Show Israel the red card” and “You are complicit”, while demonstrators chanted: “Kick Israel out.”

Tournament Fixture List

The inaugural fixture of the tournament will be staged at the the national stadium of Wales in Cardiff, on June 9, 2028, a game that will feature Wales if they make it.

Wembley will host both semi-finals and the final, which will be staged on a Sunday in July 2028 with a start time at late afternoon.

It is anticipated that an earlier start, which will also be used for European club finals from next season, will attract households and help engage a wider spectrum of fans.

Host Nations

The Republic of Ireland are due to play their initial fixture at the Dublin Arena and the Tartan Army would play similarly at Hampden Park.

The national sides of all four hosts will enter the preliminary stage; two automatic spots will be held in reserve for any that fail to qualify for Euro 2028 through the qualification path.

Locations and Elimination Phase

The Birmingham venue and Tottenham Hotspur Stadium finalize the nine host stadiums. Every stadium will hold at least one playoff fixture, with the quarterfinal matches played at the national stadium of each host.

The qualification draw will be conducted in the Northern Irish capital, which was dropped as a host city last year when it was revealed Casement Park could not be upgraded in time, on 6 December 2026.
