Slot Asserts He Feels Safe and Retains Liverpool's Backing After PSV Eindhoven Defeat
The Liverpool head coach acknowledged that it was understandable for doubts to be raised about his position after another heavy loss versus the Dutch champions.
Liverpool endured their 9th loss in 12 games, marking the team's worst run since being demoted in the 1953-54 season.
They were outplayed by the Dutch league champions on a difficult night at Anfield.
“I am feeling safe, I am OK, I've received plenty of backing from management,” the coach commented.
“It's important to reverse this trend and secure a win obviously but when you're working as a coach and not doing well then it is normal that questions are asked.”
He noted, “I'm comfortable with my situation. It is not the first time I’ve been in a difficult position but it's crucial that we improved our results.”
Discussions with The Board
Upon being questioned to expand on his conversations with the Liverpool hierarchy, Slot said:
“We communicate frequently. They assist for the squad and to me and we discuss these matters but they don’t call me all the time each day to say they trust me.”
He added, “In the normal discussions I perceive the belief. But I haven’t spoken to them since this defeat yet so let’s see.”
Familiar Problems and Squad Response
Slot lamented known weaknesses from his Liverpool side in their Champions League loss, namely missed opportunities and leaking goals.
Meanwhile, player Jones was more forthright in his assessment of the club’s predicament.
“I haven't got the answers. Truthfully, I do not. I'm telling that to everybody,” Jones remarked.
“It’s just unacceptable. I don’t even need to wait to consider it. I'm beyond getting mad inside. I’m at the point now where I simply lack the vocabulary.”
He added, “It’s hard because I’m playing for the club I love. I'm a supporter, and I've watched this club since I was young.”
“For many years, I haven’t experienced a Liverpool team going through a spell such as this with results like these.”
Jones finished, “But we continue to wear that badge on our shirts. And as long as it is gone, we will always fight.”
“We’re going to try to bring this squad back to where it needs to be, demonstrate to all once more the values of this club and why people call it the best team in the planet.”
“However currently, we're in trouble and it needs to change.”
