A renowned South African radio and club DJ has been murdered in the metropolis of Johannesburg, sending shockwaves across a country grappling with entrenched crime.
Warrick Stock, widely recognized as DJ Warras, was shot and killed in the city centre on a Tuesday afternoon.
Police said the forty-year-old media personality was confronted by a trio of assailants, one of whom shot at him before running away.

Law enforcement indicated that Stock was targeted as he was exiting a premises near the Carlton Centre.

"Authorities believe the man was approached by three unidentified men after parking his vehicle, and they opened fire at him before fleeing the scene on foot," authorities stated.
Surveillance tape reportedly depicted a suspect with dreadlocks and dressed in what looked like a protective services outfit opening fire on Stock before fleeing.
The DJ sought to escape after he was wounded but collapsed a short distance away.
Police added that Stock had an weapon on his person and it was not a robbery during the incident.
