Paceman Gus Atkinson Exacerbates England's Fitness Concerns.

'Major setback' for England as Atkinson goes off due to a hamstring issue.

Gus Atkinson increased the injury concerns plaguing England after leaving the playing area during Saturday's play of the fourth Ashes Test in the Ashes series.

The pace bowler felt a problem in his hamstring immediately following a delivery in his spell on Saturday.

The touring camp reported Atkinson had experienced "tightness" and was to take time off the field for further assessment "in the coming hours".

The final Test of the series beginning on 4 January starts on Sunday, 4 January.

The visitors have already lost strike bowlers one seamer with a knee problem and Jofra Archer because of a side injury on the current trip.

Matthew Fisher was called up as cover for Wood.

His form was underwhelming early in the series, managing only a handful of scalps.

He was dropped of the third Test, only to be brought back for the Melbourne Test to fill the void.

The county bowler performed better in the fourth Test, bagging two scalps with the ball, before adding 28 with the bat as one of just three teammates who passed ten runs.

Post a single over at the end of day one, he resumed the next day and had nightwatchman taken by the wicketkeeper.

Unfortunately, at the end of his spell, he sent down a variation to Travis Head and suddenly grabbed at his leg.

The English bowler was recalled for the Melbourne match having missed the Adelaide game.
