The bowler's most recent Test match for the Kiwis was versus the English side in December 2024.

England's fast-bowling advisor Tim Southee is currently evaluating the extent of his role will be during the forthcoming Ashes series in Australia.

The former Kiwi seamer is expected to be present for the opening match due to his involvement in the International League T20 tournament, which starts on 2 December in the UAE.

Southee, aged 36, took up a position as England's fast bowling consultant in the warmer months after taking 391 wickets in 107 Tests for New Zealand.

Speaking as England's team for the first of three Twenty20 games against the Kiwis was announced, he said of his participation: "We are still evaluating that at the moment.

"We will determine the outcome over the next little while."

England pace icon Broad had declared the Australian team as their "worst team since 2010", but the consultant was in little doubt over the anticipated challenge during the series, which begins on November 21.

"In my view there's ever a poor Aussie side," he remarked.

"The team's attention is squarely on what we're trying to do. In my opinion the quality of [England's] team that's going out to the host country is brilliant.

"It should be an thrilling encounter, the Ashes. Not just [are|do] fans from both nations eagerly anticipate it, I think the entire cricketing community is."

But, before England head to the city of Perth for the first Ashes match, they face New Zealand in the city of Christchurch on this Saturday.
