Canada's Blue Jays Secure Fall Classic Matchup With the Dodgers
Springer contributed to the Astros claiming the World Series in 2017.
Toronto's Blue Jays advanced to their first Fall Classic since the 1993 season by overcoming the Mariners in the decisive game seven of the ALCS.
Down three runs to one, the star outfielder smashed a three-run blast in the seventh frame, leading the sole Canadian team in MLB to a 4-3 victory in the seven-game series. Next up are the defending champions, the team that is the current crown, in the forthcoming Fall Classic.
"I'm thrilled for this squad, the city, the nation," said Springer, a key player of the Astros team that claimed the 2017 title. "It's truly an amazing experience."
The veteran has now connected for 23 total post-season home runs, ranking him third all-time behind Manny Ramirez (twenty-nine) and Altuve (twenty-seven).
"It's hard to imagine another player anywhere that I'd prefer in that moment besides Springer with his post-season brilliance," said Blue Jays manager John Schneider.
The Mariners, despite leading the early in the series, continue to be the only MLB franchise that has never reached in a World Series.
Wilson said "there's no question that it hurts" following his side's defeat at their home ballpark, but praised their performance in the campaign.
"It's a special team. Unfortunately that we had to come out on the losing end of the series," he remarked.
Toronto secured the title on each of their earlier trips in the early 90s, and will host the Los Angeles in the opener on this Friday.
