The UK is prepared to move forward with using the total value of immobilized Russian holdings to aid the Ukrainian war effort, Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer has stated.

In a shared declaration, the leaders of the United Kingdom, the French Republic, and the Federal Republic of Germany stated that this unified step would heighten pressure on Russian President Vladimir Putin and compel the Russian Federation to engage in negotiations.

They added that the decision would be carried out in strong partnership with the United States.

British penalties have immobilized more than £25bn of Russian funds since Russia initiated its full-scale invasion against the Ukrainian nation in 2022. Yet, up to this point, funds sent to Ukraine using Russian assets had solely been drawn from profits and interest earned on them.

Sir Keir informed Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky that the Britain, France, and the Federal Republic of Germany were in agreement in their aim to push forward toward using the complete amount of the immobilized Russian sovereign holdings to halt hostilities.

He noted that more sanctions soon would increase the strain on Moscow.

This announcement follows European leaders convened in the Danish capital recently to consider using frozen Russia's holdings for a 140-billion-euro credit to the Ukrainian nation.

Last month, President Donald Trump urged international partners to seize or utilize immobilized Russian funds, according to news outlets.

The total of immobilized Russian assets in the EU is assessed to be nearly €211bn.

Moscow executed extensive missile and drone strikes across the Ukrainian territory on Friday, resulting in power cuts in significant regions of the capital city, the city, and eight other regions.

Two people were fatally injured and at least 20 people were hurt in the strike, Ukrainian officials said.

In a post on X following the incident, Zelensky stated that the premeditated assault focused on non-military and power facilities.

"What's needed is not empty words but firm measures - from the United States, Europe, and the Group of Seven - in delivering defense mechanisms and enforcing penalties," he stated.

"All penalty impositions diminishes Moscow's military apparatus," Zelensky wrote, in a separate post.

In the same period, Zelensky stated to the press he would urge Sir Keir to participate in the Purl program, under which partner nations buy weapons from the US to give to the Ukrainian forces.

While commending the UK's firm backing for Kyiv, he said it should demonstrate clearly that it would engage in the program, as well as impose more measures on Moscow.
