A Pig's Tale: Hog Named 6-7 Granted Clemency by Miami-Dade Leader.

Although not quite at the same level as granting clemency to festive fowl, but the Miami-Dade County mayor had her own presidential-style act this week by ceremoniously saving the life of a pig named Six Seven.

Daniella Levine Cava carried out the annual tradition at the Cuban-themed Latin Cafe 2000 in the core of Miami’s iconic Little Havana neighborhood.

“This animal is guiltless. Clemency is justified for her. Her criminal record is spotless,” declared Levine Cava in a speech with obvious nods to the vast quantity of pardons issued from the start of the onset of a second term in office.

“Except perhaps for eating half a dozen apples per day,” Levine Cava continued. “I hope she experiences a long and happy life without fear.”

This ceremony, simultaneously observing and challenging the local cultural practice of eating roast pork during the holidays, was established to mirror the annual turkey pardoning at the White House.

The animal, contributed by a first responder, was christened after the modern linguistic fad of young people yelling “6-7” – originating from a musical verse – often for no discernable reason. The trend became so ubiquitous that a prominent word reference recently made “6-7” its annual vocabulary selection.

A New Life

Six Seven the pig is now destined to live out its days at a farm sanctuary “far from charcoal and roasting pans”, according to the event’s official press release.

“The annual pig pardon has become one of our favorite ways to open the holiday season,” said the event host, in a notably cheerful message.

“It represents the essence of Miami: vibrant, multicultural, and based in heritage that bring people together. Every time, we are delighted to mark tradition and kindness in a way unique to Miami.”

Participants enjoyed a plant-based fare of spinach fritters and cafecito as they toasted the pig's pardon.
